Enevate Technologies has introduced Trifecta, a licensable battery cell technology designed so engineers no longer have to choose between specific energy, power and cycle life. Intended applications include drones, humanoid robots, race cars, data center power systems and electric aircraft.
Enevate Technologies says Trifecta designs match or exceed the specific energy of leading lithium-metal and solid-state cells without their usual safety and charge-rate problems. The company has published five configurations, all modeled designs that build on a proof of concept with earlier prototype cells.
Trifecta Surge is the power version: 400 Wh/kg at a 40 C rate for 500 cycles, intended for racing, data center power and heavy-lift drones. Trifecta Prime is modeled at 425 Wh/kg, 20 C and 1,000 cycles for humanoid robots, commercial drones and eVTOL aircraft.
Two configurations trade cycle life for specific energy. Trifecta Sprint reaches 480 Wh/kg at 20 C but lasts only 20 to 50 cycles, for high-power, limited-use systems. Trifecta Range offers the highest specific energy: 545 Wh/kg, at a 1 C rate and the same 20 to 50 cycles, for long-endurance and single-mission drones.
Trifecta Endurance is the middle option: 475 Wh/kg at 1 C, with a 1,000-cycle life for long-life platforms at moderate power.
Enevate Technologies works with each customer to match or tailor a configuration, then helps arrange production by a licensee, through a custom build or by the customer’s existing supplier. Battery manufacturers interested in licensing Trifecta to produce cells for their own customers are invited to contact the company.
Enevate Technologies builds on technology and team members from silicon-anode developer Enevate Corporation, whose assets an affiliate of Quantum Valley Investments acquired during Enevate Corporation’s liquidation.
“Engineers have spent years designing around their batteries,” said Benjamin Park, CEO of Enevate Technologies. “Trifecta flips that. We want to have open conversations about how our technology can change how you design things.”
