British EV powertrain company Electrogenic has acquired the business of TREMEC Electric GT, a Huntington Beach, California developer of electric powertrains, giving the Oxford, UK company a permanent base in the United States.
TREMEC Electric GT, founded in 2014, designs and integrates EV powertrain systems. It has built turnkey powertrains for low-volume vehicle manufacturers and supplies the aftermarket conversion sector with its e-Crate swap systems, complete plug-and-play packages that electrify a vehicle using its existing frame, body, driveline and suspension. The company has electrified everything from classic Porsches to American muscle cars.

Electrogenic says TREMEC Electric GT’s growth had been limited by its need for sophisticated vehicle software and control systems, which sit at the core of Electrogenic’s own technology. Its technology includes in-house vehicle control software, microprocessor designs for the driver interface and body control, and digital dashboards. The company says the California base will also support its ongoing software-defined vehicle (SDV) development program.
The acquisition adds a US base to Electrogenic’s Oxford headquarters and its network of partner installers, who sell and install its ‘drop-in’ conversion kits for classic vehicles including the Land Rover Defender, Series Land Rovers, classic Porsche 911s, Jaguar E-Types and DeLorean DMC-12s. Electrogenic’s partner installers gain technical support on Pacific Time as well as GMT.
Electrogenic also carries out bespoke conversions, including electrified classic Land Rovers and plug-in hybrid 1920s Harley-Davidson motorcycles built for actor Jason Momoa.
Electrogenic and TREMEC will continue to collaborate on future EV powertrain development and manufacturing.
“The USA is our most important market and we wanted to provide additional support to our US partners, as well as establishing a strategic base in California as part of our ongoing SDV software development programme,” said Steve Drummond, CEO of Electrogenic. “It will enable us to accelerate new products, extend our manufacturing options and further elevate our service offering for new and existing customers across North America.”
