Electrifying off-highway equipment requires engineers to use a different mindset for a fully efficient vehicle design – from battery systems and power electronics to controls, packaging, and energy management. Thermal management naturally becomes a major focus, yet one critical element is often considered only after key architectural decisions have already been made: operator climate comfort.

By the time cabin HVAC requirements enter the conversation, development teams may already be working within fixed constraints for packaging, electrical power, thermal architecture, cost, and performance. At that stage, achieving operator comfort, visibility, and safety often becomes an exercise in balancing compromises rather than optimizing the overall system.

This session explores thermal management from a vehicle-level perspective, examining why operator climate control should be considered alongside battery thermal management and power electronics cooling; not as an isolated subsystem, but as one of the machine’s fundamental thermal requirements.
