Generational and Maverick Diagnostics to bring EV battery health testing to UK car repair shops

Generational, a UK-based specialist in EV battery condition diagnostics, has partnered with Maverick Diagnostics to make EV battery health testing available to thousands of automotive workshops across the UK.

Under the agreement, Generational will distribute its testing kits, fulfil workshop orders and provide the software platform that powers its battery health checks, State of Health reporting and customer-facing certificates. Maverick Diagnostics will market the technology and provide educational insights for workshops.

Maverick Diagnostics serves around 6,000 auto repair shops across the UK, giving independent repairers a straightforward route to add EV battery testing to their customer offering.

As the number of used EVs on the road grows, battery condition is an important consideration for consumers, retailers and repair shops. While real-world data shows that EV batteries are performing strongly overall, the health of individual batteries can vary depending on age, charging behavior, usage profile and maintenance history.

Generational and Maverick Diagnostics are encouraging EV owners to include a battery condition check as part of annual vehicle maintenance.

Generational’s testing process is designed to be fast and simple for workshop staff to use. A compact device connects to the vehicle’s OBD port, enabling the software to assess key battery condition data and produce a report that can be shared with the customer.

Generational’s recent Battery Performance Index, based on more than 8,000 EV battery assessments across the UK, found that average battery State of Health stands at 95.15%. However, the Index also found that variation between vehicles increases with age—reinforcing the importance of testing on a case-by-case basis.

“Workshops are being asked to service increasingly sophisticated vehicles, and EV battery condition is one of the biggest questions their customers have.
