ChargeScape is a vehicle-grid integration platform that’s owned by a consortium of automakers including BMW, Ford, Honda and Nissan. It’s also used by Tesla, Stellantis and other automakers.

Now ChargeScape has added Rivian to its roster of automaker partners. Rivian EV drivers will now be able to opt into ChargeScape’s network of utility programs, providing opportunities to reduce charging costs while supporting the electric grid. Rivian vehicles will connect through ChargeScape’s network of power utilities to provide flexible grid capacity that can help balance peak electricity demand.

Once integrated with the ChargeScape platform, Rivian EVs can participate in utility managed-charging programs as flexible energy resources.

“This is a significant step forward in aligning automakers around a common platform and charging standard,” said Joseph Vellone, CEO of ChargeScape. “Rivian’s partnership with ChargeScape will bring some of the largest batteries on the road onto an industry-owned shared infrastructure.”

“Through this collaboration with ChargeScape and other partners, Rivian’s software-enabled vehicles are well suited to help balance the energy grid and enable drivers to get more value out of their vehicles,” said Andrew Peterman, Director of Advanced Energy Solutions at Rivian. “These solutions demonstrate how electric vehicles can help reduce electricity costs and support a more resilient energy grid for everyone, whether you own an EV or not.”
